I had thanksgiving dinner there. The all you can eat buffet was fantastic. Plenty of food and choices and it tasted great. Spectacular location right at the base of Mount Washington.
I did a Presidential Traverse in Feb '77. 10 mountains, 1 night in the MIT cabin. After that there was nothing but wilderness on the trail. No cabins on the way. I hear there are 3 cabins you can stay in ? If that's true, it doesn't count. It's a journey of you & nature together as you each are. And can you survive it? Cabins ? Was never part of the Traverse. That's how you tested your meddle, strength & endurance & spirit. You can't going from cabins to cabins to get you out of the elements because ,, the elements are what you need to be in to know if you could survive in a worse case seneario. If they are safety cabins it defeats the purpose as well. ITS YOU & THE ELEMENTS, THATS IT & CAN YOU DO IT. THE FIRES AT NIGHT TO TALK OVER THE DAYS CLIMB & LOOKING UP AT THE NIGHT SKY FULL OF ART YOU COULDN'T IMAGINE. WHERE IS THAT IN A CABIN CEILING ? SOMETHINGS ARE MEANT TO BE ENDURED NOT SHELTED FROM.
Whichever way you choose to go, please always SAFETY MOOD
1st & NEVER climb Alone. It's reckless, stupid & you could put rescue team in SERIOUS TROUBLE OR DEATH. Be smart, the mountains in winter can & will kill you. Be a smart climber & respect the Mountains. They are alive as well & trees 🌳 DO FEEL PAIN . USE DEAD BRANCHES FROM THE GROUND FOR FIRES & LEAN 2s. LIVE TREES DON'T EVER BURN. SO NO HURTING LIVE TREES. BEZT WISHES & GOOD LUCK.
A perfect stay before our 9-hour hike and 12 miles. Very clean and everyone was kind and knowledgeable. The dinner was amazing. 3 courses and they provided vegan and gluten-free options. It was very quiet the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Bonus, free level 2 charging. They have two outlets that use J1772.
The best place for any last minute needs before hiking up Mount Washington. The men's bathroom has a couple stalls and a couple showers which is a welcome site if you were in the mountain for a couple days. Or if you forget any essentials, it has a decent selection of hiking gear like trekking poles or water bottles. Also has plenty of souvenir items ranging from tshirts, magnets, patches, etc.
The folks are always friendly and willing to give you a last minute report of the weather or snow conditions.
2.17.23-2.20.23 This was my 1st time here, and I was told to expect simple lodging with incredible hiking opportunities. So with regards to reviewing the lodge, the parking lots fill up quickly with people coming to hike, so those of us paying to stay overnight couldn't find parking. It was very frustrating, and this could be an easy fix by assigning residents a spot...our room was simple but very clean, and it had clean sheets, towels, and extra blankets. The common areas were also clean and very comfy. There was self-serve tea and coffee. Breakfast and dinner were served in the adjacent building. Friday night, we had a wonderful dinner with plenty of fish, veggies, and pasta. The other nights, however, they ran out of food. One night, they ran out of meatballs, and there wasn't much else to eat. not much of anything. At dinner, they checked our names to see if we paid, but at breakfast, they didn't. I'm not sure why not. The location is perfect for skiers, hikers, and snowboarders as you're close to the trails. It's also within a 40-minute car drive of 2 breweries, vineyards, and outlets. We saw many kids, teens, and older folks. So basically, good for all. The lodge has a library with books, maps of the trails, etc.
I am a long time AMC member and have stayed at Joe Doge Lodge many times and have always been happy with the experience until this past weekend. Let me just say, I would give the accommodations a 4.5 as they are clean, comfortable, quiet and cozy. The reason for the 1 star was the dining experience. Our group of 11 ate Friday and Saturday dinner as well as Saturday and Sunday breakfast. At every meal, they ran out of food. What they did have left was cold and in some cases inedible. The dirty dishes piled up at the kitchen window until there was no room to put more. They ran out of mugs, bowls and utensils and some dishes were not clean. At breakfast Sunday morning, there was no coffee, no bread and they ran out of eggs, bacon, and fruit. And when we asked if there was going to be any, staff was very rude! After hiking and skiing all day you need calories ro fuel your body. We all left the table hungry. I do not recommend staying here. We are looking for other accommodations next year.
Love this place. Dinner, breakfast, and a nice place to sleep with a backcountry feel… right on a trailhead! What’s not to love.
We had such a great experience here! The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were spotless. The staff was also super helpful and friendly. Good variety in the breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here, especially in the winter.
